Date:

The Gombe State Police Command on Sunday, said no fewer than five suspects have been arrested for allegedly assaulting an Upper Area Court Judge and five others.

The PUNCH reports how the Judge, Ayuba Buba-Dalas, Barrister Usman Yahaya, and Buba-Dalas’ staff were attacked and injured barely a week ago.

The court usually conducts a physical assessment of issues relating to land disputes to ascertain the cause of conflict, however, it was in this process at Putuk Degri District Area Balanga Local Government Area that they were attacked.

The state chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association had also condemned the attack while urging the command to prosecute the perpetrators of the act.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mahid Abubakar, in a short text which was obtained by our correspondent, confirmed the arrest.

Abubakar said, “Gombe police command arrested five suspects for allegedly assaulting a Judge and five of his entourage on November 4, 2023.

“CP Hayatu Usman, Psc directs for discreet investigation.”
