Tribunal Declares Kaduna Guber Polls Inconclusive, Orders Re-run

Date:

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Kaduna has declared the 2023 governorship election in Kaduna state inconclusive.

The petition was filed by the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Isah Mohammed Ashiru, at the tribunal to challenge the election of Uba Sani as the sitting Governor of Kaduna State.

The PDP had baked its arguments on the grounds of alleged irregularities and electoral fraud, deposing that its candidate (PDP candidate), Isah Mohammed Ashiru, won the election.

The tribunal, which resumed proceeding today, 28th of September, in a split decision of a ratio of 2:1, declared the election inconclusive and directed that supplementary elections in seven wards, four local governments, and 24 polling units consisting of 16,300 registered voters should be held by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) within 90 days.

The verdict was announced via Zoom after the judges shunned the physical hall.
