Unknown Gunmen Kill Lawyer, Victor Onwubiko in Imo State

A popular legal practitioner, Victor Onwubiko was killed on Saturday night by unknown gunmen In Imo State.

It was learnt that the lawyer was killed while he was returning to Abia State University, Uturu, where he resided.

A source who is privy to the situation told The Nation that the incident happened along the Okigwe/Uturu road between 8pm and 9pm on Saturday, February 10, during a notable kidnapping incident.

“A lawyer who was later identified as Barrister Victor Onwubiko was killed by gunmen along Okigwe Road. He is based in Okigwe town in Imo state but is a resident of Abia State University Uturu.

“He was returning to Abia State where he also resides when he was ambushed by gunmen and killed along Okigwe/Uturu road.

“There have been series of kidnappings and killings along the road irrespective of the heavy security agents in the area,” the source said.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Henry Okoye, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, said, “We are on top of the situation, I am going to issue a press statement on it.”

SaharaReporters had earlier reported how no fewer than four people were killed by gunmen even as they attacked Point of Sale (POS) operators in Imo State, South East Nigeria on 29th of January, 2024.

The incident, SaharaReporters gathered, happened at Ohii junction located on the Owerri – Orlu Road.

According to eyewitnesses, two of the victims were said to be policemen who were on duty in the area during the unfortunate attack.

A video of the incident seen by SaharaReporters showed the lifeless bodies of the victims.

A Facebook user, Anyaeri Bright who shared a video clip of the incident confirmed that two policemen and two civilians allegedly lost their lives in the attack.
