{"id":81354,"date":"2023-08-16T08:40:25","date_gmt":"2023-08-16T08:40:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dnllegalandstyle.com\/dnl\/?p=46591"},"modified":"2023-08-16T08:40:25","modified_gmt":"2023-08-16T08:40:25","slug":"unical-begins-probe-of-sexual-harassment-allegation-against-faculty-of-law-dean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dnllegalandstyle.com\/dnl\/unical-begins-probe-of-sexual-harassment-allegation-against-faculty-of-law-dean\/","title":{"rendered":"UNICAL Begins Probe of Sexual Harassment Allegation Against Faculty of Law Dean"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The management of the University of Calabar has begun an investigation into an allegation of sexual harassment levelled against the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Cyril Ndifon, on Monday by the students of the institution.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a viral video on social media on Monday, the students of the faculty accused Ndifon of sexually assaulting and harassing them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The students were seen storming the office of the school\u2019s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, bearing placards with inscriptions such as, \u201cNdifon must go for our sanity\u201d, \u201cWe are tired of buying law journals\u201d, \u201cWe are tired of lecturers not attending classes\u201d, and \u201cLaw girls are not your bonanza; Prof. Ndifon should stop grabbing us and others.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">An online medium,\u00a0<em>CrossRiverWatch<\/em>, had, however, quoted Ndifon as <a href=\"https:\/\/dnllegalandstyle.com\/dnl\/2023\/unical-prof-accused-of-harassing-female-law-students-speaks\/\">denying<\/a> the allegations, stating that the protest was orchestrated by individuals within the faculty who held a grudge against him.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0\u201cFor Christ\u2019s sake, I don\u2019t teach Year 2 B or Year one students, so I don\u2019t know why they have chosen to drag my name into the mud. This was why I said earlier that the allegations were lies, cooked from the pit of hell, just to destroy a reputation that I had spent decades building,\u201d he was partly quoted as saying.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking with\u00a0<em>PUNCH Metro<\/em>\u00a0on Tuesday, the university\u2019s spokesperson, Eyo Bassey, said the school management had met with the aggrieved parties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bassey said, \u201cBy the end of today (Tuesday), we will issue a statement. Yesterday (Monday), the students came out with their protest, carrying placards, which you saw online bearing various inscriptions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThey were invited by the vice-chancellor. The staffers of the Faculty of Law were invited to come and address management as well as their senior faculty staff about whatever might have been their complaints.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThey spoke and raised a lot of issues. It is not even just about sexual allegations.
