With the rise of digital transformation and data-centric business practices, privacy concerns are more prominent than ever, and there is an increasing need for legal professionals who understand the nuances of data protection regulations, such as the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA), and the global landscape of privacy law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DPLAN aims to serve as a professional body for privacy lawyers in Nigeria, providing a platform for networking, knowledge sharing, and advocacy for stronger data protection laws and practices. The association also seeks to play a key role in educating stakeholders, including businesses, policymakers, and the public, on the importance of data privacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Call for Applications: Steering Committee Volunteers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In line with the founding of DPLAN, Olumide Babalola invites experienced privacy lawyers, legal practitioners with an interest in privacy law, and individuals with relevant expertise in the privacy and data protection field to volunteer for the Steering Committee. The committee will be entrusted with overseeing the association&#8217;s initial operations, ensuring it meets its mission and objectives, and laying the groundwork for DPLAN\u2019s long-term success. The Steering Committee will have an instrumental role in defining the association\u2019s vision, membership structure, activities, and strategic initiatives. Committee members will also collaborate on organizing workshops, webinars, and seminars, advocating for privacy rights, and supporting the growth of privacy law practice in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Key Responsibilities of Steering Committee Members:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Develop and refine the vision and mission of DPLAN.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Formulate strategic plans to guide the association&#8217;s growth and activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organize educational events, conferences, and forums on privacy and data protection law.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Foster collaboration among privacy lawyers and industry professionals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advocate for stronger privacy and data protection laws and policies in Nigeria.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide leadership and direction on key initiatives in the early stages of the association.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure compliance with the association\u2019s founding principles and objectives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eligibility Criteria:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Qualified lawyers (not less than 3-years post call)\u00a0 with a demonstrated interest or experience in privacy, data protection, or cybersecurity law.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A strong commitment to promoting privacy rights and the development of privacy law in Nigeria.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prior experience in committee work or professional associations is an advantage, though not mandatory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How to Apply:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Interested individuals should submit the following documents via email to dataprojectionz@gmail.com on or before 23rd December 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Curriculum Vitae (CV) with a focus on relevant qualifications and experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A brief cover letter (max. 1 page) outlining your interest in joining the Steering Committee and how your skills and expertise will contribute to the Association\u2019s objectives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Selection Process:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All applications will be reviewed by the Nomination Committee, and shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Final members of the Steering Committee will be selected based on their qualifications, commitment, and alignment with the mission of the DPLAN.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The formation of DPLAN represents an exciting opportunity for legal professionals passionate about privacy law to make a meaningful impact in Nigeria\u2019s evolving legal landscape.
