The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has said sporting activities play a crucial role in maintaining the emotional balance of judicial officers and ensuring the proper functioning of the justice system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at the 31st annual judiciary sports competition held at Uyo Township Stadium, Kekere-Ekun stated that the tournament had strengthened and fostered a dedicated workforce of men and women with mental clarity and physical wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CJN, represented by Justice Uchechukwu Onyemenam, Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Calabar Division, also highlighted the role of the competition in deepening bonds among staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is my honour and privilege to join you on this auspicious occasion of the opening ceremony of the annual Judiciary Sports Competition organised by the National Sports Association for the Judiciary (NASAJ).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Judiciary is often perceived sorely through the prism of its solemn responsibilities of interpreting the law, resolving disputes, and safeguarding the rights and liberties enshrined in our constitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYet, behind these formalities stand a dedicated workforce of men and women, whose mental clarity, physical wellbeing, and emotional balance contribute significantly to the proper functioning of our justice system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSports play a vital role in nurturing these collective wellbeing. They promote camaraderie, discipline, strategic thinking and healthy competition,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CJN emphasised that the competition has united judiciary staff across departments and backgrounds through shared purpose and mutual encouragement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In her welcome address, the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Justice Ekaette Obot, assured organisers of standard sporting facilities across the stadium to enable effective and healthy competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
