The Enugu State Government has confirmed the arrest of a woman, Mrs. Ogechi John, for allegedly beating her nine-year-old stepdaughter, Miss Ogechi Amanda John, to death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement released on Monday, the suspect, who hails from Oderiko in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was arrested by the police on Monday morning in connection with the death of the child at their residence in Nchatancha, Emene area of Enugu metropolis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reports from neighbours indicated that the incident allegedly occurred around 3 p.m. on Sunday. Residents also claimed that the deceased had long suffered persistent and severe maltreatment in the hands of her stepmother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reacting to the incident, the Enugu State Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih, assured that the government would ensure the suspect is fully prosecuted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She stated that the state government would not relent until justice is served, stressing that the administration of Governor Peter Mbah maintains zero tolerance for child abuse and child homicide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to her, the government acted swiftly upon receiving the report, leading to the arrest of the suspect. She further called for a thorough and speedy investigation to ensure justice is delivered without delay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
