Poetic Side: Judges on a Ride to the Open Court

Date:

Judges went on a ride to the Open Court
With their adjudicatory heads a-ringing,
Their judicial minds a-rumbling
And their judicious hearts a-pounding.

There was no chariot of Elijah to do the toil
Or black bulky Benz to cruise the soil
No constitutional immunity to stop the boil
Nor royal hats and caps to hide the oil.

Jointly and severally,
They too were scanned and scrutinized
With the same heavy gavels a-banging
In the same dark docks a-clinging
And the same fear of conviction a-stinging.

There was no occasion for long vacation
Or specialized room for self-adjudication
No NJC hearings to grant admonition
Nor chamber trials to conceal information—
Only an open court to try for conviction,
For condemnation or for vindication.

Judges went on a ride to the Open Court
They went on a ride to the open court.
Facts and fiction must have been missed up
They went on a ride to the open court.
Peter must have been robbed to pay Paul
So they went on a ride to the open court

My Lords went on a ride to the Open Court
They went on a ride to the open court
Not to dine, to dance or to dig it down
They went on a ride to the open court.
But to plea, to plead and to pull it up
So they went on a ride to the open court.
